Angela Meade Given Sills Award by Met Opera

NY (AP) Soprano Angela Meade has won the Beverly Sills Artist Award for youthful performers.The annual award, which has a $50,000 prize, was introduced Monday. It's provided to performers from 25-40.Meade sings Elvira on Thursday within the opening from the Met's revival of Verdi's "Ernani," the role she sang on her company debut in 2008.Previous those who win include Nathan Gunn (2006), mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato (2007), tenor Matthew Polenzani (2008), bass John Relyea (2009), soprano Susanna Phillips (2010) and mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard (2011).Copyright 2012 Connected Press.
